Member States and social partners discuss gender dimensions of job quality [1]

The Policy Analysis Group of the EU Employment Committee (EMCO) organised on 24 and 25 March a tripartite meeting with social partners to discuss the gender dimensions of job quality. It gathered Member States, the Commission and social partners at cross-industry EU level - ETUC, BusinessEurope, SGI Europe, and SMEunited - and national level.

Real growth in minimum wages in 2026, amid both progress and pullback on Member States’ ambitions [5]

Minimum wage growth remains real and substantial for 2026. Many EU Member States with a statutory or national minimum wage have continued to apply more structural uprates, with the aim of reaching a higher percentage value of actual (average or median) wages. The most likely driver of this is the Minimum Wage Directive and its stipulation that countries must adhere to ‘indicative reference values that guide their assessment of adequacy’. At the same time, in a few Member States, progress on reaching targets previously set has been slower.

Tripartite Social Summit, 22 October 2025 [7]

EU leaders and social partners met in Brussels for the Tripartite Social Summit. The main theme of the summit was ‘Making Europe stronger in a changing world that delivers for workers and enterprises’.

The participants discussed the following issues:

  • A stronger Union economically and politically
  • Investing in productivity, affordable housing and quality jobs

Balancing the clock: How Europe works and rests [8]

This article provides an update of some of the most important aspects of working time regulation in the European Union, including:

  • statutory limits on weekly working time
  • annual leave entitlements, as set by law and collective agreements
  • estimates of average collectively agreed normal working time, including examples in five specific sectors: chemicals, metalworking, banking, retail and public administration.

Minimum wages in 2025: Annual review [10]

This year’s report presents the minimum wage rates for 2025 and how they were set and uprated during 2024. It includes information on countries with and without national minimum wages. In addition, it provides the first comparative overview of how Member States have transposed the Minimum Wage Directive and presents new estimates of the proportion of minimum wage earners and their ability to afford housing. Finally, it summarises research on minimum wages published during 2024.

Minimum wages in 2024: Annual review [16]

This 2024 annual review of minimum wages provides a synopsis of minimum wage setting during 2023 in the EU27 and Norway. It reports in detail on the processes and outcomes of setting the minimum wage rates for 2024 and beyond. It investigates the extent to which minimum wage earners were affected by the cost-of-living crisis and shows how minimum wage workers are distributed across households over the entire income distribution.

Improving the working conditions of platform workers [17]

On 11 March 2024, employment and social affairs ministers from the EU Member States endorsed the agreement reached with the European Parliament in February 2024 on the platform work directive. The directive introduces the presumption of employment – to be applied following national rules – as well as the first EU rules to regulate algorithmic management in the workplace.

Infographic - Spotlight on digital platform workers in the EU [19]

The new rules address cases of misclassification of platform workers and ease the way for such workers to be reclassified as employees, guaranteeing easier access to their rights as employees under EU law. The agreement also includes provisions that will better protect platform workers’ personal data and increase transparency on how algorithm systems are used to take decisions in the workplace.
