Kremalis, Konstantinos

Professor Emeritus Dr Konstantinos D. Kremalis, Managing Partner at KREMALIS Law Firm, completed his legal studies at the Universities of Athens, Munich and Vienna. He holds the title of Supreme Court Attorney at Law. He practices in the areas of employment, social security, social insurance and health law. Since 2011, Prof. em. Dr. Konstantinos D. Kremalis is the Director and Chairman of the Insurance, Social Security & Labour Affairs Committee of the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce (Amcham) and Arbitrator in the Greek Board of Mediators and Arbitrators (1990-onwards). He became associate professor in 1983, substitute professor in 1987 and, from 1991 until 2014 full professor at the Law School of Athens University. He has taught National, European and International Law of Social Security, Health and Welfare at the Law Department of Athens University for under- and postgraduate students, as well as at many other Universities in Europe and beyond. After been assigned as an independent expert for the national reports in the European project TRESS (2005- 2013), he is now the national expert in the European project FreSsco regarding “The Intra-EU Mobility - Free Movement of Workers and Social Security Coordination”. Professor Kremalis has been globally acknowledged as an Employment and Labour Law leading Expert in Greece by Legal 500, Chambers and Partners and Who’s Who Legal, while Who is Who Greece has featured an extensive presentation of his major contribution to the Legal Sciences, and especially with regards to labour and employment and social security law. Furthermore, Professor em. Kremalis has an in-depth knowledge in the field of codification, and he was also member of the Scientific Committee assigned by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Social Insurances for the Codification of Social Security Laws (1990-1992) that led to the consolidation and codification of Social Security Law, as depicted in L. 1902/1990 and L. 2084/1992. Professor em. Kremalis published his book “Simplification and Systematization of Social Protection Rules”, EPIKAYP, 1996, which provides significant guidance regarding the methodology to apply in law codifications. Moreover, he was in charge of PANDEKTIS, a digest of case law on the full range of social security case law in which scholars can find in a simplified classification not only published judicial decisions but also unpublished rulings. Moreover, Professor em. Kremalis has drafted and edited the Codification of Health Law, published by Nomiki Vivliothiki in 2011. He was as well appointed as member of the 12-member Experts Committee (Epitropi Sofon), established by the former Minister of Labour, Social Security and Social Solidarity (2015). The committee was entrusted to design a new social security system.
Professor em. Kremalis is project Leader for the "Codification of Labour Law in Greece" following the selection of Kremalis Law Firm by the European Commission (contract SRSS/C2017/033).
